The polyphase thermal protective device of Specification 994,436 has at least the ends of the bimetallic strips 1a . . . 1c angled with respect to the pair of slidable bars 3, 4 so that the initial heating of the strips under balanced conditions causes relative motion between the bars 3, 4 such as to increase the engagement of a tongue 3e of the bar 3 within an aperture in the contact-carrying member 6 so as to reduce the sensitivity of the device.
