Abstract

1,242,590. Treating exhaust gases. P. AUGUST. Sept.12, 1968 [Oct.13, 1967], No.43322/68. Heading F1B. Exhaust gases are rendered less toxic by cutting off the fuel supply and/or admitting secondary air to the mixture during coasting or idling to increase the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gases to such an extent, e.g. above 2% by volume, that the toxic constituents are oxidized by a catalytic device in the exhaust pipe without the introduction of air into the exhaust pipe.
