Abstract
1,242,489. Permanent magnets; magnetic switches. M. BAERMANN. 13 Oct., 1969 [21 Oct., 1968], No. 50102/69. Headings H1N and H1P. In a keyboard, plural keys 10, intersecting a fixed permanent magnet strip 5 alternately magnetized along its length with opposite poles, carry heads 7 permanently magnetized laterally with opposite poles, separated by non-magnetic guides 6. A further strip 2 laterally movable against spring 3 by button 11 is alternately magnetized along its length with opposite poles, and the lateral pole pitches are similar, while, magnetic poles at the upper and lower faces of heads 7 are respectively opposed to those on strip 5 and on strip 2 in the rest position shown. Thus undepressed keys are retained in contact with strip 5 and depressed keys with strip 2 until the latter is moved laterally, when the heads 7 are repelled from strip 2 into attraction by strip 5. Dry reed switches (Fig. 2, not shown) may be provided in the field of operation of heads 7 for magnetic operation on key depression. The permanent magnets may be of barium, strontium, or lead ferrite, moulded plastic containing ferro magnetic material, or individual magnets on ferromagnetic carriers.
