An electron beam heating apparatus having a constant current power supply source is protected by means operative in response to a fault to cause disconnection and reconnection of the power supply a plurality of times before finally disconnecting the supply if the fault persists. The periods in which the supply is reconnected are of the same length, but the periods in which the supply is interrupted may increase in length until the final interruption occurs.
