Abstract
1,242,038. Wet separation of solids. BARMAG BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. 17 April, 1970 [17 April, 1969], No. 18437/70. Headings B1D and B2H. An apparatus for separating plastics granulate from a mixture consisting of granulate, granulate waste and water comprises a primary separator 1 (2) having a screen 9 consisting of spaced bars 10 arranged in the flow path of the mixture to be separated, a main separator 3 having a set of conical screen elements 18 and a set of funnel-shaped screen elements 19, the elements of each set being arranged one above the other in the form of a tower, an overflow chamber 4 connecting the primary separator with the main separator and an inlet spout 5 for the mixture to be separated. As shown, two primary separators 1, 2 are mounted on opposite sides of the main separator 3. Each primary separator consists of a container 6 in which is removably arranged an insert 7 having a removable perforated base 8. The screen bars 10 and an inlet tube 11 are fixed together to a frame 13 supported on projections 15 in the upper part of the insert 7. The frame 13 is covered by a coarse screen 14. A curved baffle 16 fixed to the frame 13 serves to deflect liquid issuing from the primary separators towards the main separator. The main separator 3 comprises a trough 17 at the bottom of which is inserted a discharge funnel 20 in which is in turn inserted a column of funnel-shaped screen elements 19-19" arranged one above the other. Coaxially mounted within the funnel-shaped elements is a column of conical-shaped screen elements 18-18", the lower one of which is supported by a filtrate outlet tube 23 which opens into a filtrate discharge funnel 27. The top of the trough 17 is covered by a screen plate 26. For cleaning purposes, a valve-controlled outlet 29 is arranged at the bottom of each primary separator and communicates with the funnel 27 through a pipe 30. In operation, the mixture to be separated is fed via the spout 5 to the inlet tube of one of the primary separators 1, 2 at the bottom of which the flow is reversed and the mixture flows upwards against the screen bars 10 which retain the coarse granulate waste while the fine granulate and the water flow into the chamber 4 and thence into the main separator 3, the screens 14 and 26 retaining any coarse particles still present. The fine granulate is dewatered by passing down the conical and funnel-shaped screen elements 18, 19 in turn until it finally enters the discharge funnel 20. The separated water which passes into the interior of the screen elements 18-18" and to the exterior of the screen elements 19-19" is finally discharged through the funnel 27. In a modification the primary separators may be arranged immediately adjacent each other. In a further modification the bars 10 of the primary separators may be arranged horizontally.
