Abstract

1,241,617. Carboxylic amide thioethers. CIBA-GEIGY A.G. 4 Dec., 1969 [13 Dec., 1968], No. 59389/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] The invention comprises compounds of Formula (I) where M is a bivalent radical of formula -S-, CH 2 ) p -S-, each A and A<SP>1</SP> denotes an alkylene residue C 1 _ 18 p is 1, 2 or 3, R 1 is an alkyl C 1 _ 8 radical and R 2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl C 1 _ 8 radical. They are prepared by reacting 2 moles of the appropriate R 1 , R 2 , 4-hydroxy substituted halo-alkylene carboxanilide with 1 mole of a mercaptan of formula H-[-M-]-H in the form of its alkali metal salt. They act as antioxidants. 3,5 - Di - tert. - butyl 4 - hydroxy - chloroacetanilide is prepared by reacting 2,6-di-tert.- butyl p-aminophenol with chloroacetyl chloride.
