Abstract

1,241,517. Fluid-treatment of wood. M. GOULET. 5 Feb., 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 6160/69. Heading D1P. [Also in Divisions A5 and F4] Wood may be dried or impregnated with a fluid e.g. a preservative, after compressing it transversly to the grain, allowing it to recover and placing it in the required environment for transfer of fluid. The pressure applied is near to the elastic limit of the wood but less than that which would permanantly damage it. Platens or pressure rolls may be used in applying the transverse pressure. Yellow Birch may be dried in one sixth of the normal time by compressing boards to near the elastic limit followed by steaming and kiln drying. Eastern Spruce may be impregnated by subjecting it to a vacuum, simultaneously releasing the vacuum and introducing the preservative, followed by the application of pressure.
