Abstract

1,241,292. Correcting scoliotic curves. NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CORP. 24 Sept., 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 44527/67. Heading A5R. A device for correcting a scoliotic curve and maintaining such a correction, comprises a rigid member 1 having a lug 4 and 5 at each end to abut vertebra adjacent to the curve, connecting members (14, Fig. 4) each with a hooked shaped end (30, Fig. 4 or 26, Fig. 8) for engagement with a vertebra in the curve and means for connecting the connecting members (14) to the rigid member 1. reducing the distance between the hooked portion (30 or 26) and the rigid member 1 and also opposing movement in a direction tending to increase said distance. Each connecting member (14) has a screw threaded portion (15, Fig. 4) for passage through one of several holes 12 in the base of a longitudinal groove 10 in the rigid member 1 where it may be secured by a nut which seats in a hole 12 provided in the rigid member. The bounding surfaces of each hole conform to a truncated minor segment of a sphere for cooperation with a nut of complimentary shape.
