Abstract
1,240,679. Igniting and controlling burners. CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES R.V. 5 July, 1968 [2 Feb., 1968], No. 32122/68. Headings F4F and F4T. [Also in Divisions F1 and H1] A gas burner ignition system comprises a capacitor 8 charged via a diode 10 and a resistor 11 and discharged through the primary winding 1 of a transformer having secondary windings 3 connected to spark electrodes 4, an electronic switch 12 for controlling the discharge of the capacitor 8, and a pulse generating device 14 connected to the trigger 13 of the electronic switch, the resistor 11 and the pulse generating device 14 being such that the period between pulses generated by the device 14 is greater than the time constant of the charging circuit of the capacitor 8. The frequency of the device 14 is preferably between 1 and 20 Hz. The pulse generating device may be a Shockley diode, a transistor, a tunnel diode, or a gas diode, the frequency of the device 14 being determined by a capacitor 16 and a preferably variable resistance 15. Alternatively, the pulse generating device may be a Zener diode (Fig. 6, not shown) connected to the voltage source through a resistance 15. In Fig. 8, the ignition system is actuated when a gas cock 25 is pressed and rotated to supply gas to a burner A and on ignition ionization current flows between the electrode 4 and the burner 8, this current being derived from a point 29 between the capacitor 16 and the pulse generating device 14 and thus rendering the device 14 inoperative to halt spark generation.
