Abstract
1,240,543. Windscreen cleaning systems. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 8 Jan., 1969 [29 Jan., 1968], No. 4410/68. Heading A4F. A windscreen cleaning system includes a switch 23 for energizing an electric windscreen wiper motor 25, a switch 14 which when closed energizes both the wiper motor 25 and a windscreen washer motor 17, and a turning device 18, 19 operable when the switch 14 is opened to maintain energization of the wiper motor 25 for a predetermined period. The switch 23 when closed energizes a relay coil 22 to close contacts 26 to energize the motor 25, whereas the closure of the switch 14 energizes a relay coil 13 to close contacts 15 to energize the washer motor 17 and contacts 16 to charge a capacitor 18 to render a transistor 21 conducting to energize the relay coil 22 and the wiper motor 25. When the switch 14 is opened the contacts 15, 16 open to de-energize the washer motor 17 immediately, whilst the energization of the wiper motor 25 is continued until the capacitor 18 has discharged sufficiently through a resistor 19 to render the transistor 21 non conducting. Alternative control circuits are described by which after the opening of a switch either both wiper and washer motors continue to be energized for the same period, or the washer motor continues to be energized for a shorter period than the wiper motor.
