Abstract

[Also in Division E1] A door panel comprises a core 10, e.g. of a paper honeycomb and two cover layers 12, 14, which may be of hard wood fibre board, each having thin preformed layers 16, 18 of a material impermeable to moisture glued to both faces and to the core with an adhesive such as an epoxy resin. The moisture impermeable layers 16, 18 on each cover layer may be aluminium foil but preferably the inner layers 18 comprise polyethylene sandwiched between paper sheets. The external aluminium sheets 16 may be embossed and/or lacquered or have a layer of thin board applied thereto. Strips of veneer may be glued on to give the appearance of a ploughed and tongued door. The edges of the panel may also be provided with a moisture impermeable layer.
