[Also in Division G4 Nuclear magnetic relaxation times are measured by comparing a voltage signal corresponding to the envelope of the decaying free precession signal with two, adjustable, reference voltages, a clock pulse generator being started when the signal voltage is equal to one reference voltage and stopped when it is equal to the other, the number of pulses generated in the interval being counted and displayed. The arrangement may be such that setting the higher reference voltage automatically sets the lower reference voltage to a value 1/e that of the higher. For greater accuracy, ten or a hundred measurements may be made in an automatic sequence, the total number of pulses in the sequence being counted. The output of the counter may be fed to a pen recorder.
