Abstract
1,239,108. Wrapping packages. ARENCO A.B. 21 Nov., 1969 [22 Nov., 1968], No. 56995/69. Heading B8C. In a device for sealing together the two side edges of a a sheet of heat sealable foil which has been wrapped around three plane side walls of a parallelepiped package 1 to project at 3, 4 from two opposite edges-of the fourth side two swing- able arms 12, 13, and 16 are pivotally mounted on coaxial shafts 14, 15 respectively at a folding station of a stepped rotary turret head 6 the arm 12, 13 being first swung anti-clockwise so that a blade 10 thereon folds down the edge 3 whereupon the arm 16 is swung in the opposite rotative sense to fold the other edge 4 over the edge 3 and seal it thereto by means of a heated roller 17. The shafts 14, 15 are pivotable by mechanism which is synchronously connected to mechanism which rotates the turret head 6 step-by-step. The arm 12, 13 comprises an outer part 12 which is adjustably pivoted to an inner part 13. The heater may be moulded in the material of the roll 17 which is made of heatresistant plastics material such as PTFE or a heating element may be located either between the roll shaft 18 and the roll, as shown at 19 or, in a bore in the shaft 18. Alternatively, the roll may be heated by steam passed -through a hollow shaft. A pocket 1 takes up a vertically arranged thin sheet as it enters one of the pockets, in direction A, at position I and is ejected, in direction C, at position V. Other mechanism, not described, is necessary to fold down the end portions of the package.
