Abstract

1,238,814. Positive clutches. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 25 March, 1970, No. 14529/70. Heading F2C. In a friction synchronized positive double clutch for a change speed gear wherein initial axial movement of a sleeve 19 engageable with clutch teeth 21, 23 on gears 11, 15 acts through thrust pins 41 to move synchronizing cones 25 into engagement with friction surfaces 31, 33 fast with the gears 11, 15, the thrust pins 41 are urged radially outwardly by springs 45 to engage tapered recesses 44 with the tapered edges of apertures 43 in a flange 39 of the sleeve 19 through which the pins pass. Baulk pins 35 passing through apertures 37 in the flange 39 prevent engagement of the sleeve 19 with the clutch teeth 21, 23 until synchronism is attained.
