Abstract
1,238,163. Granulating. KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. 5 March, 1969 [7 March, 1968], No. 11706/69. Heading B2A. Pulverent or crystalline substances are granulated by compressing into slabs by rolling, and comminuting the slabs in at least two stages by means of impact or hammer mills 3, 7, the last stage mill or mills 7 being operated in a closed circuit with a classifying device 4, and the peripheral speed of the beater arms or hammers of the last stage mill or mills 7 being at least 1.25 times that of the mill or mills 3 in the preceding stage. Slabs from a rolling mill 1 pass over a screen 2 to separate fines, entering a first mill 3, driven at a peripheral speed of about 18 metres per second. The classifier separates fines for re-rolling, and finished product 5, oversize material being piped 6 to a second mill 7, of about 22 metres per second peripheral speed, while a pipe 8 diverts material to the first mill 3 if the second becomes overloaded. Potassium salts or rock salt may be treated.
