Abstract
1,237,569. Radiographic film. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORP. 16 July, 1968 [21 July, 1967], No. 33918/68. Heading H5R. In preparing a radiograph there is exposed to the ionizing radiation a product comprising a support layer carrying an intensifier emulsion layer which contains particles of both a luminophor and a photosensitive material, the luminophor being excitable substantially only by penetrating ionizing radiation, and the photosensitive material being sensitive to the radiation emitted by the luminophor, and thereby forming a latent image in the intensifier-emulsion layer and this latent image is developed and formed as a positive image by transferring by diffusion an imagewise distribution of undeveloped photosensitive material to an image receiving layer. Preferably this image receiving layer is part of the product exposed to the ionizing radiation and is positioned on that side of the intensifier emulsion layer remote from the support and the latent image is developed and the positive image formed by spreading processing composition between the intensifier emulsion layer and the image receiving layer. The spreading of this layer may be achieved by positioning a rupturable container between the intensifier-emulsion layer and the image receiving layer. There may be on each side of the intensifier emulsion layer a layer opaque to visible light at least one of such layers being penetratable by the ionizing radiation. It is preferred that a light reflecting layer is positioned between the support and the intensifier emulsion layer. One of said layers opaque to visible light may be positioned between the intensifier-emulsion layer and the image receiving layer and may consist of an alkalipermeable layer of black dye. In a preferred embodiment, the image receiving layer includes its own supporting layer and is adapted to be stripped from the intensifier emulsion layer by positioning between the intensifier emulsion layer and the image receiving layer, a stripping layer of alkali permeable polymeric material. The preferred luminophor is zinc sulphide and it may be used in an amount such that the emulsion layer is opaque to visible light.
