Abstract
123,636. A.B.C. Coupler, Ltd., and Mitchell, J. March 28, 1918. Couplings, automatic and non-automatic.-Relates to safety catches for maintaining in position the pins of railway and like vehicle non-automatic couplings of the type in which the pin forms a part of a sliding open loop and engages a coupling-link, or constitutes the pivot pin of a Norwegian or like coupling-hook, as described in Specification 122,020. Fig. 1 shows a catch C adapted for use with a pin A forming part of a loop which is slot. ted at B to receive the coupling-link. After the link has been passed through the slot B, the pin A is moved laterally through the link and coupler head, and is retained in the coupled position by placing the catch C in the position shown in full lines, with its end c bearing against the side of the coupler head. The catch is pivoted at D to the loop and operated by means of an ear E. Fig. 2 shows a catch H for holding in the uncoupled position a vertically-moving pin J carried by a bar I, the catch being pivoted at K and adapted to engage the top of the coupler head to support the pin as shown. A handle L serves for rotating the catch to allow the pin J to drop to the coupled position.
