Abstract

1,236,189. Extrusion-blow-moulding. SAFCO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 13 May, 1970, No. 23147/70. Heading B5A. An extrusion-blow moulding machine comprises an extruder 1, blow mould halves 4a, 4b, an axially reciprocable blowing mandrel 2, gripper halves 7a, 7b and delivery guide 9. Blow-mould halves 4a, 4b and the gripper halves 7a, 7b are carried by reciprocable carriers 5a, 5b. In one position, the carriers close to close mould halves 4a, 4b about an extruded parison and grippers 7a, 7b about the previously moulded article 13. The blowing mandrel 2 is then withdrawn, stripping the article against stripper ring (14, Fig. 4, not shown). The carriers 5a, 5b are then swung or traversed to a second position wherein the mould halves and parison therein are beneath the blowing mandrel and the gripped article 13 from the previous cycle is pushed into delivery guide 9. After blow-moulding, the carriers are opened, retaining the newly blown article on the mandrel by suction and releasing the previously formed article in guide 9. The carriers are then returned to the first position and closed to enclose a newly extruded parison in the blow mould and grip the blown article on the mandrel for a subsequent cycle.
