Abstract
123,580. Timmis, A. H. Feb. 26, 1918. Brush-making machines.-Bristles and the like are sorted into lengths by subjecting their rout ends to pressure alternately on opposite sides against a resisting surface so as to bend them to and fro. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 3, the bristles b', after being combed and prepared in the usual manner, are placed in a holder b and held in position by the spring-pressed pusher c. The holder b is then gradually fed forwards so as to bring the bristles into engagement with a pair of combs f, g. The lower comb f is fixed in position, but the upper comb is reciprocated longitudinally so as to bend the longer bristles to and fro and thus cause them to rise when they are engaged by the rollers l and passed on to the travelling band n. After all the longest bristleshave been separated, the bottom of the holder b is raised and the operation repeated for the next set of bristles, and so on.
