Abstract
1,235,419. Knitting machines. SINGER CO. 7 May, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 23335/ 69. Heading D1C. A blade wing cam 78 is mounted on the end of a pivoted arm 70 so as to engage the butts and lower those needles which after having been raised by cam 36 are not further raised by a pattern wheel 26 and return those needles to welt height. Any needle which is inadvertently misplaced causes the blade cam, by engagement between the needle butt and the leading edge of the blade cam, to be deflected out of the path of the butt against the action of a spring 72 pressing on the pivoted arm 70. The upper part of the arm 70 also carries a cam portion 80 which when the arm 70 and the blade cam 78 are in their normal projected positions acts as a guard cam restricting the movement of those pattern wheel selected needles which having been raised to knitting height engage the stitch cam 48 and are drawn downwardly between the stitch cam surface and the upper surface of the cam 80. Consequently any tendency for the needles to ricochet of the stitch cam 48 when knitting at high speeds and miss taking yarn is prevented by the upper surface of the cam 80. The cam 80 is of less depth than the blade cam 78 and enable the arm 70 and the cams to pivot back into position after the butt of an incorrectly positioned needle has passed the blade wing cam 78.
