Abstract

1,235,356. Band clamps. J. W. PRATT. 4 Feb., 1969 [9 Feb., 1968], No. 6455/68. Heading E2B. [Also in Division A4] A clamping device comprises a band 2 and a connector 1 to receive its ends, at least one of the ends being retained by an element 3 which has an associated releasable ratchet mechanism, wherein the or each retaining element 3 is turnably received in an aperture 4 in the connector and is formed around its periphery with ratchet teeth 6 for engagement with complementary teeth 7 on the part of the connector defining the aperture, the teeth being arranged to permit turning of the element 3 in one direction only and being disengageable when required. As shown, the ends of the band 2 are received in a slot 5 in a pair of elements 3. Teeth at the ends of each element 3 co-operate with teeth 7 defining part of each aperture 4 whereby rotation of one or both elements in one direction is effective to tighten the band around a support 8. They may be released by driving one of the elements out of the connector. The device may be used to fix a road sign to a post.
