Vertical-cutter type for cutting sheet material in direction of feed; cutting warpless fabrics.- Relates to a machine of the type comprising cutters working in a grooved roller for longitudinally cutting fabrics &c. and particularly fabrics woven with warpless intervals. and consists of (1) improved means for guiding the material so that the lines of severance, e.g. the warpless portions, pass over the grooves, (2) means for securing a waved or serrated cut, and (3) means for varying the angle presented to the material by fixed blades, where used. The material A is cut as it passes over a grooved roller C or its equivalent by stationary knives D or loosely mounted disk cutters and the grooves in the roller C correspond with the required lines of severance. The material is guided to the cutting apparatus by a guide-bar B provided with rotatable or other collars B<1> with rounded edges adapted to bear on the warpless portion or required line of severance of the material. Similarly spaced star-wheels H may also be employed to engage the warpless portion and further assist in guiding the material. From the cutting-apparatus the material passes over a roller E and bar F to the winding apparatus. The roller E may be driven and serve as a feed-roller, and an additional bar J may be employed to increase the overlap of the roller C by the material. The cutters D are carried by arms pivotally adjustable. on a bar D<1> to permit of varying the inclination of cutting-edges. The bar D<1> may be reciprocated laterally of the material to secure a waved or serrated cut, or where disk cutters are used, their cutting-edges may be so disposed as to secure the desired shape of cut. The rollers C and E are preferably provided with roughened peripheries.
