Abstract

1,234,700. Spinneret for conjugate filaments. CHISSO CORP. 29 July, 1969, No. 37904/69. Heading B5B. A spinneret adapted to spin either simple or conjugate filaments comprises: an orifice plate 6 pierced with a plurality of orifices 18 in a square grid pattern; a rotatable distributing plate 5 adjacent the orifice plate and having in the surface next the orifice plate a plurality of parallel grooves 15 so arranged that when the grooves 15 are parallel to either axis of the grid of orifices 18 two grooves are in connection with any one orifice, the grooves 15 having inlet conduits 16 at alternate ends; and means for supplying spinning liquids (melts or solutions) to a pair of adjacent reservoirs 9 and 10 having conduits 11 adapted to co-operate with the conduits 16 in the distributing plate so that when the grooves 15 are parallel to one orifice grid axis alternate grooves connect with one reservoir and the other alternate grooves connect with the other reservoir and when the grooves 15 are parallel to the other orifice grid axis the two grooves connecting with any one orifice connect with one reservoir only. The first arrangement results in conjugate filaments and the second in simple filaments, the distributing plate 5 being rotated through 90 degrees between the two positions. In the preferred embodiment, filters 3 and 3<SP>1</SP> and a filter-reinforcing plate 4 are arranged between the reservoirs 9 and 10 and the distributing plate, the filter-reinforcing plate 4 containing the conduits 11 and two distributing chambers 13 and 14. Fig. 1a shows the distributing plate 5 in position for conjugate filaments and Fig. 2 shows the position for simple filaments.
