Abstract
1,233,870. Coating-chromatography plates. BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM G.m.b.H. 30 April, 1970 [2 May, 1969], No. 20869/70. Heading B2L. A coating device for thin layer chromatography plates comprises side parts 1, 1a and connecting parts 4, 5 which are non-adjustably mounted at an angle to leave a slit for the egress of coating material the lower edges 2a of the side parts 1, 2 having guides 3 which engage over the edge of the plate to be coated, the difference in height between the edges 2a of the side plates and the lower edges of the connecting plates thus determining the thickness of coating to be applied. The lower edges of the connecting plates are formed as doctor blades and are of transparent synthetic plastics resin which can be ground away to achieve the required coating thickness. In a modification, not shown, a second vertical connecting part such as 4 can be placed adjacent the angled plate 5 and with the provision of guides on the upper surfaces of the side parts the coating device can be used either way up when it is preferable to provide different coating thickness with each pair of connecting parts.
