Abstract

A dowel comprises a core in the form of a rod which carries two or more protruding parallel helical flanges along substantially the whole length of the core, the radial height of the flanges being greater than their maximum thickness. The leading edge may be formed with cutting edges and the other end may be shaped to be fitted either by a special shaped spanner or a conventional spanner. One end may be provided with a screw-thread to take a conventional nut. The dowel may be of steel, aluminium alloy or plastics material. The flanges may be given indented or serrated edges.
