A strip metal or plastics Y-section post comprises a wire retaining slot 6 in which fence wire is retained by a deformable U-section clip 8 opposite arms of which 10 and (9) are bent over parallel to the base of the U and pass through spaced holes 12 and 11. At the top of a post the slot may be inverted. The holes 11 and 12 may be replaced by a single elongate slot. Resident strip metal retaining means may be spot welded to the post.
