Abstract
1,232,997. Aerials. BRITISH BROADCASTING CORP. 9 Aug., 1968 [25 Aug., 1967], No. 39294/67. Heading H4A. An aerial array consists of a plurality of spaced-apart parallel dipoles which are formed by conductive patterns 13, 14 on the respective facing surfaces of two parallel insulating panels 10, 11 which are spaced apart by an air gap. The said patterns include vertical central and opposite feeder strips, from which horizontally disposed dipole arms extend. The feeder strip on the panel 10 is associated with R.H. dipole arms 18, 19 and L.H. dipole arms 17, 20 and the feeder strip on the panel 11 is associated with R.H. dipole arms 171, 20<SP>1</SP> and L.H. dipole arms 181, 19<SP>1</SP>. The two panels are identical, one being turned over so that the two patterns are facing. A coaxial line feeds to the centre of the aerial feeder strip line via a balun 25 and, with a vertical spacing between dipoles of half the mean wavelength, the dipoles are energized cophasally. The panels 10, 11 are glass fibre sheets and the patterns 13, 14 are of adhering copper foil, and may be formed by a printed circuit process. The dipole arms are of triangular shape, for wide-band operation. A reflecting screen 15 may be provided behind the panel 10. An omni-directional aerial system may comprise three or four arrays of the kind described, arranged in box formation around a vertical axis.
