Abstract

1,232,894. Hand operated air pumps. ETABS. POUTRAIT-MORIN. May 7, 1969 [May 9, 1968], No. 23262/69. Heading F1N. [Also in Division F2] In a hand operated air pump for bicycle tyres comprising a piston 13 carried by a hollow metal stem 12 having a handle 11, the stem 12 is secured to the piston 13 and the handle 11 by punching through the stem so that the metal splits and becomes embedded at 20, 21, 36 in the plastics material of the piston and handle. The stem may also be impressed into an annular groove 35 in the piston. The handle has a concentric sleeve 16 supported by radial ribs 17 which define with the stem 12 an annular space 24 into which is forced a compression spring 15. The piston 13 is provided with a variety of different seals (see Division F2), some of which act as valves enabling air behind the piston to pass to the space in front of the piston during the return stroke, (For Figures see next page).
