Abstract

1,232,776. Compass. A. J. FREY. 24 Jan., 1969 [24 Jan., 1968], No. 4292/69. Heading B6P. [Also in Division G1] A drawing instrument comprises a square support member 12 with a circular opening 14 therein, a bar-like member 16 extending across the opening and provided at its ends with web portions 47, 48 engaging with the edges of the opening 14, to support the member 16 therein and allow relative rotation between the members 12, 16, the support member 12 having indicia 24 thereon to indicate the angular position of the bar member 16 within the member 12. The edge 41 of the opening 17 is preferably a V- section projecting into the opening, and the web portions 47, 48 have corresponding V-section grooves in the ends thereof. The bar member 16 has an edge 20 lying diametrically across the opening 17. This edge 20 is marked with indicia 31 and is provided with an arrow 74 indicating the centre of the circular opening 17. The member 16 is also provided with a number of holes 28 which when the bar member has been removed from the opening 17 by flexing the middle portion thereof, allows the member 16 to be used as a compass for drawing circles. The support member 12 may be provided with linear indicia 29, 33 along its edges and with a series of apertures 27 of different radii. The instrument is preferably made from a polymeric material.
