Abstract

1,232,580. Flexible plastics hinge. FOLEY PLASTICS MFG. CO. Ltd. 30 Oct., 1968 [30 Oct., 1967], No. 49146/67. Heading E2F. A hinge is made in a flexible plastics sheet material by providing an integral portion of reduced thickness unequally spaced from the faces 2, 10 of the sheet 1 and having surfaces 6, 14 of unequal length parallel to the sheet faces 2, 10 and symmetrically arranged as seen in section, the shorter surface 6 being the further from the sheet face 2 on the same side. V-shaped flat-bottomed grooves 4, 12 are machined or moulded on the sheet faces 2, 10, the groove 4 being such deeper. The angle between the sloping surfaces 8, 16 of the grooves 4, 12 may be 100‹. The plastics sheet 1 may be folded through 180‹ to bring the two parts of the face 10 into contact, or through 90‹ in the opposite direction to bring the two parts of the face 2 into right angular relation, when an opening is left between the sloping surfaces 8. The total angular movement is thus 270‹. The plastics is preferably polypropylene.
