Abstract
1,232,339. Fusible cut-outs. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 24 Nov., 1969 [27 Jan., 1969], No. 57374/69. Heading H2G. In a high voltage fuse having an elongated conductor 83 (Fig. 1) connected to and biased towards one 34 of a pair of terminals through spring means 76, the fusible member 60 is connected between the other terminal 36 and the conductor 83 by a lever arrangement comprising latches 326, 332 (Fig. 3) engaged by a lever member 324, the arrangement ensuring that only a fraction of the pull exerted on member 83 by spring 76 is transmitted to fusible member 60. An auxiliary conductor 182 may be provided in an auxiliary bore 127, which, like the main bore 130, may pass through boric acid blocks. On blowing of the main fuse 160 conductors 83, 182 are retracted upwards by spring 76, helical conductor 194 stretches and is broken either mechanically or by fusing occurring or on breakdown of insulation 199 at the lower end of 194 followed by arcing. Arcing continues from previously insulated arcing terminal 158 to conductor 182 when the end of the latter moves into bore 127. Arc extinguishing gas is then produced in bore 127 following production thereof in main bore 130. Relatively small currents are interrupted in the auxiliary bore and larger currents in the main bore.
