Abstract
1,232,260. Electric switches with time delay. K. DIEHL. 18 Oct., 1968 [19 Oct., 1967], No. 49404/68. Heading H1N. A push-button switch is held on for a preselected time according to the extent of depression of the actuator 3, Fig. 1, which carries a spring-loaded arm 7 having steps 9d, 9e, 9f, Fig. 3, engageable with a fixed stop 10 and released step-by-step under the action of the heating and cooling movement of a bimetal timer arm 13, the heater 16 of which is placed in circuit by contact 32, Fig. 5, engaging one of the contacts 33-35 on a slider 24 carried by the actuator 3. The bimetal 13 carries a slider 12 supported at its other end on a compensating bimetal 14 and carrying a lug 11 which engages arm 5 to free the selected step 9 from stop 11 to partially release the actuator 3 until the step 9 engages the stop 11. At this position the contact 32 engages slider 24 intermediately of the contacts 33-35 so that the heater 16 is disconnected and the bimetal 13 allowed to cool. Lug 11 then falls to permit further partial release of the actuator 3 until the final step 9f is completely released to the position shown in Fig. 1. The actuated switch may be released at any stage by a full depression of the button 4 whereby an end 17 of the lever 5 engages the end 15 of the casing to thereby cause the arm 5 to swing away from the stop 11 at which position of spring catch 18 on the arm 5 engages in a recess 21 of the actuator 3 to hold the steps 9d, 9e, 9f clear of the stop 10. The spring catch 18 is automatically released from slot 21 by engagement with a wedge 23 when the actuator reaches the fully restored position. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the lever 7 is arranged to move in a plane at right-angles to the actuator 3 and the bi-metals lie in a plane parallel to the actuator 3.
