Abstract

1,231,835. Detergent composition. HELENE CURTIS INDUSTRIES Inc. 7 Nov., 1968 [8 Nov., 1967], No. 52830/68. Heading C5D. A solid detergent composition, in tablet form, comprises from 15-80% by weight of a synthetic detergent and 10-50% by weight of a water-soluble hardener therefor, the synthetic detergent being an alkyl sulphate (C 12-18 ) and/or an alkyl ether sulphate (C 12-18 ) and the hardener therefor being at least one alkyl alcohol (C 14-18 ) having a melting point above 35‹ C., one or more alkyl ether alcohols derived from such alcohols, or a mixture thereof. The hardener is preferably a mixture of stearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol, the weight ratio of the stearyl alcohol to cetyl alcohol being 4 : 3 or 1 : 1. The synthetic detergent employed in the specific examples is either sodium lauryl sulphate or a mixture of sodium lauryl sulphate and sodium myristyl sulphate and the sodium salt of polyethoxylated lauryl sulphate. The composition may also contain non-ionic surfactants, e.g. ethoxylated lanolin, glycerine, propylene glycol or propylene glycol monostearate.
