Abstract
123,173. Roberts, T. Feb. 18, 1918. Sampling liquids.-Apparatus for taking samples automatically comprises a feeding funnel c' and hollow arm b<1> rotating intermittingly over a ring of sampling vessels k mounted in a relatively fixed table h, the rotation of the funnel and arm being effected by ratchet mechanism m driven by electric devices o controlled by clockwork, preferably at a distance. The liquid is supplied to the funnel through a tap d<2> on a fixed pipe d, and the table h may be supported on rollers for occasional manual rotation. The ratchet wheel m may be driven by a spring pawl pivoted to the core o' of a solenoid o carried by a fixed bracket o<5>, or in place of the solenoid, an electro-magnet may be used. The circuit of the solenoid or magnet is controlled by an arm p mounted preferably on the hour wheel or sleeve of a clockwork train and making contact with a contact s, which may be adjusted to vary the duration of the contact. The arrangement may be such that the arm b<1> is moved several times while over a sampling vessel.
