Abstract

1,231,585. Scoop-arm machines. HY-MAC Ltd. 9 Sept., 1968 [9 June, 1967], No. 26651/67: Heading E1F. [Also in Division F1] An excavator comprises a pivoted boom 3 and an accumulator 9 operably coupled to the boom to receive and store fluid under pressure during downward movement of the boom and to release the stored fluid to assist upward movement of the boom. An isolating valve in the fluid circuit is cam-operated when the boom moves downward to a given position, to disconnect the accumulator from the boom so that full power can be used for digging. A flow regulating valve may be provided in the circuit to regulate the speed of upward movement of the boom or to hold the latter in a desired position. When the accumulator is disconnected from a ram 8 operatively connected to the boom the ram may be automatically connected to a source of power so that extra-power is provided for digging.
