Abstract
1,231,504. Keyboards for printers. H. KAFAFIAN. 6 Nov., 1968 [Nov., 16, 1967], No. 52557/68. Heading B6F. [Also in Divisions G4-G6] A control arrangement for operating typewriters or similar machines comprises a number of switches arranged in two groups each group being operable by a different part of the operator's body, e.g. the two hands, the switches of the two groups being interconnected so that when the switch in each group is operated a single output lead is energized. The output lead is connected to a solenoid to operate the corresponding typewriter key. The switches may consist of contacts mounted on clips 10 worn on the fingers and a conductive plate 40. The three finger clips on each hand have two contacts each and the thumb clip has one. The left-hand contacts are connected to the vertical wires 61-67 and the right-hand contacts to the horizontal wires 51-57. Between the wires at each cross-point is connected a solenoid 70 isolated by a diode 69. When one contact from each hand is touched against the plate 40 current from one of the batteries 51a- 57a actuates one of the solenoids. In another arrangement the plate 40 is divided into a left and a right hand portion, a single battery being connected between them. The solenoids may be shunted by spark suppression diodes. Instead of being mounted on separate clips the contacts may be mounted on a glove, the plate 40 being replaced by a contact plate on the thumb. Vertical and horizontal lines are selected by touching finger contacts against the thumb plate. The contacts may be replaced by pressure actuated switches operated simply by pressing the finger against a hard surface. In another form separate left and right hand keyboards are provided.
