Abstract
1,231,437. Steam generators; heat exchangers. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. 10 July, 1968, No. 32980/68. Headings F4A and F4S. The inlet channel 18 for high temperature gases, e.g. process gases from an NH 3 , H 2 C:CH 2 , CH 3 OH or H 2 producing plant, supplying a shell and tube heat exchanger 20 is provided with a helical gas cooling coil 52. The inlet tube plate 54 from which the heat exchanger tubes 22 extend has a refractory coating 70. The adjacent coils of the coil 52 are welded together and with the metal end seals 66 and 68 form a stagnation region between the coil and the channel wall 62 providing insulation. Water from a steam and water drum 28 is pumped to a flue gas heated economizer 24 and the coil 52 for return to the drum and water flows by natural circulation into the heat exchanger 20 for conversion to steam which flows to the drum. The outlet from the coil 52 may be connected directly to the exchanger 20. Water may be fed to the coil 52 in a once-through loop.
