Abstract

1,231,239. Heating and cooling systems etc.; ventilation and air conditioning. SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN A.B. 21 Oct., 1968 [20 Oct., 1967], No. 49894/68. Headings F4U and F4V. Room heating (or cooling) means is positioned along a window sill, up the sides of the window and across the wall at the top of the window opening. The invention may be applied to a door opening and in both applications places the heating means where the heat losses are greatest. The heat may be supplied as hot water or steam, or electric cables may be provided. The cables may be encased in a plastics material. In one form, heating (or cooling) pipes 42 are mounted in a frame 53 hinged at 54 to a frame 52 fixed to the wall, insulating material 22, which may be a foamed plastic, being located between the pipes and the wall. This form enables the frame 53 to be swung clear of the wall for cleaning. Flexible ducts connect the pipes to supply and return lines. In another similar form the pipes may be wound in coils around the window or door opening (Fig. 17, not shown) and may be of soft annealed copper or of a plastic. Other alternatives include one or more rectangular pipes (Figs. 2 and 11), several passages of tapered cross-section (Fig. 10), several spaced tubes with openings (47, Fig. 12) in the vertical walls to allow for convection, and a number of separate pipes each making a single coil round the window opening and being connected to supply and return lines (Fig. 18). The metal frame enclosing the pipes may be an extruded section. If ventilation is additionally required further air supply and return pipes 26, 27 are provided and are connected to gratings 28 and a heater 38 and a cooler 39 are also fitted.
