Abstract
1,229,551. Stranding machines. FELTEN & GUILLEAUME CARLSWERK A.G. 7 Feb., 1969 [7 Feb., 1968], No. 6691/69. Heading D1T. The stranding device shown is characterized in that the components thereof are in a housing composed of several co-axially disposed tubular wall units 12 connected together by plates 13. The plates 13 divide the housing into several compartments. A main drive mechanism 20 and variable hysterisis brake 21 are in compartment 14; cradle 7 and take-up reel 8 are in compartment 15; gearing 22 is in compartment 16; a lapping head 10 is in compartment 17; and a lay plate 4 and lay equalizing device 6 are in compartment 18. The wall units 12 are connected to the plates 13 by pins or screws 23. The strand 1 is first laid up in a temporary form by a vertical planetary laying-up machine (not shown) and fed to the layplate 4 that rotates at the same speed, but opposite direction, to the planetary laying-up machine to completely unlay the strand. Subsequently the elements 5 are laid up in the rotating die 6 to form the finished strand. The die 6, cradle 7 and take up reel 8 rotate at the same speed and in the same direction as the rotor of the planetary laying-up machine. The strand 9 is thus finally laid up at a rate equivalent to the sum of the speed of the rotor of the preliminary laying-up machine, and the speed of the final closing die 6 and the cradle. The torque of the brake is set by altering the gap between the magnetic ring 31 and the hysterisis plate 32 by turning the screw-threaded brake housing 33. The take-up reel 8 is driven by the rotation of its cradle 7 reacting against the action of the brake 21.
