Abstract

1,229,138. Pipe couplings. GRASSO'S KONINKLIJKE MACHINEFABRIEKEN N.V. 4 Nov., 1969 [28 July, 1969], No. 53944/69. Heading F2G. A flexible coupling, e.g. for connecting a ship's refrigeration system to cooling medium supply and discharge apertures 6 of a container in the ship, comprises an inflatable toroidal tube 12 attached to a projection cylinder 4 so that it is located inside an outer cylinder 7 when deflated, and when inflated projects from between the cylinders 4, 7 and presses against a wall 5, surrounding the aperture, forming a flexible seal; the tube is connected to a valve 13 for inflating, rinsing, and retaining the pressure in the tube, and a valve 14 for deflating the tube. The tube 12 maybe a motor car inner tube and be connected to a low pressure air system. The space between cylinders 4, 7 is filled with insulating material 11.
