Abstract

1,228,428. Coated polymer articles. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 30 Dec., 1968 [8 Jan., 1968], No. 61734/68. Heading B2E. Ultra-violet light-resistant thermoplastic articles of an aromatic polycarbonate of a dihydric phenol are produced by coating the surface of the articles with a solvent solution of an ultra-violet light absorbent, and drying the coated article, the solvent being a solvent for both the ultra-violet light absorbent and the thermoplastic polymer. The ultra-violet light absorbent may be benzophenones, substituted benzophenones and benzotriazoles and mixtures thereof, the preferred absorbent being 2-hydroxy-4-n-octoxy benzophenone. The solutions can be applied by dipping, spraying, rolling, coating with a doctor blade.
