Abstract
1,228,171. Strings. OSAKA GOSEN CO. Ltd. 8 April, 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 15807/ 67. Heading D1T. A string for games racquets comprises a core consisting of at least one polymeric monofilament and at least one helical wrapping of a polymeric material and a liquid lubricant contained in the core and/or between the wrapping and the core. The core may be formed of longitudinal, aligned, twisted or plaited monofilaments which may be hollow. There may be more than one helical wrapping, the direction of winding of each wrapping being opposite to that of the previous layer. The material of the core and wrapping may be the same or different, e.g. a polyamide or polyester. The helical wrapping can be adhesively bonded to the core by using a solution of nylon in phenol and trichloroethane, followed by drying in a hot air stream. The lubricant may be contained in or between the filaments of the core the lubricant may be a vegetable or mineral oil or grease, e.g. paraffin wax, liquid paraffin, soy bean oil, habassic oil, palm kernel oil, palm oil, olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil; peanut oil or rape oil.
