Abstract

1,227,946. Parachute harness. IRVING AIR CHUTE OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd. 5 June, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 27646/67. Heading A3V. The parachute harness has a U-shaped sling strap 1 for the user to sit on releasably attached below shoulder level by releasable couplings 9 to lift webs 2 which pass in front of the shoulders of a parachutist and are attached to a parachute, and thigh straps 3 and shoulder straps 4 attached to the sling strap 1 to hold in the parachutist during descent. The lift webs 2 making a running connection with the shoulder straps 4 at shoulder level so that when the coupling 9 is released the lift webs 2 are pulled through the running connections 11 as a result of drag from the canopy. The strap arrangement has snap hook 7 to interconnect the loops 6 of the shoulder straps. The couplings 9 are in use, at waist level and each coupling comprises two bars 12, 13 pivoted together at one end and releasably held together at the other end, as described in Specification 1,227,947. Alternatively each coupling may consist of a withdrawable pin which engages in a loop of the lift web. One bar 13 is permanently secured to the sling strap and the other engages in a loop 14 of a lift web 2. An additional D-shaped loop (41), Fig. 11 (not shown), for a reserve parachute, which may be connected thereto by a hinged connection or a semi-flexible loop of steel cable, may be trapped between the two bars. The fittings 10 have four bars with three parallel slots. The strap 4 passes through the first two slots and round the intermediate bar and the lift web 2 passes through the third slot. A three bar fitting 11 is threaded on to each lift web 2 so that the lift webs 2 cannot be pulled down through the fittings 10 more than the limited amount.
