Abstract

122,700. West, J., and Glover, S. Jan. 31,1918. Materials for making gas and other products.- Cannel and other coals are destructively distilled in continuously operated vertical retorts. Superheated steam is introduced into the lower portion of the retort, preferably by means of the arrangement described in Specification 120,458, [Class 55 (i), Coking &c.], and this is converted into blue water gas which assists the distillation in the centre of the coal charge.
