Abstract

1,225,541. Photo-lithography. EASTMAN KODAK CO. May 2, 1968 [May 3, 1967], No.20813/68. Heading G2C. Photo-sensitive materials for preparing lithographic plates comprise (i) a support, (ii) a surface layer of a silver halide emulsion in a tannable hydrophilic colloid, the layer being photo-sensitive or non-photo-sensitive and optionally being fogged, (iii) a silver halide developing agent (optionally in the form of a precusor) capable of oxidation in the presence of the tannable hydrophilic colloid to form an image receptive to lithographic printing ink, (iv) if the surface layer is not photo-sensitive, silver halide emulsion layer between the surface layer and the support, and (v) a layer containing a metal oxide and having an average reflectance of at least 60% to light in the region 420-500mpl, which layer is either between the photo-sensitive layer and the adjacent surface of the support or forms the said surface of the support. The materials are similar to those described in Specification's 978,744 and 1,223,334 (apart from the metal oxide layer) and are processed in the same way. Preferably, the oxide is ZnO, TiO 2 , MgO or Al 2 O 3 , and is present in a colloid layer or in a polymer coating on the support; the oxide layer may also contain an antihalation dye, e.g. 1, 5-di-(3, 4-dipydroxy-benzoyl)-penta-1, 3- dienylene-bispyridinium chloride, mono-inner salt.
