1,224,918. Dehydro derivatives of morphinan and benzomorphan. RECKITT & COLEMAN PRODUCTS Ltd. 8 July, 1969 [18 July, 1968], No. 34373/68. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula and their salts, in which R denotes H, -OH, -OCH 3 or -OCOCH 3 , R<SP>1</SP> denotes C 2-5 alkenyl, C 1-5 alkyl which may be substituted on carbons 1-4 by an aryl, a benzoyl, a pyridyl, a furyl, thiophenyl or a C 3-6 cycloalkyl, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> each denote H or C 1-3 alkyl, or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> together represent -(CH 2 ) 4 -, may be obtained by dehydrogenating a compound of formula e.g. by heating in aqs. acetic acid with mercuric oxide or mercuric acetate, and then converting to a salt if required. Pharmaceutical compositions, having analgesic, sedative and antitussive actions, comprise a compound of Formula I above or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a carrier.
