Abstract

1,224,383. Automatic control of light intensity. DR. -ING. RUDOLF HELL. June 25, 1968 [July 27, 1967], No.30311/68. Heading G3R. A recording lamp controlled in dependence on an input signal in electronic line-by-line photographic reproduction apparatus is also controlled by a negative feedback signal from a photo-cell responsive to light from the lamp. As shown, a a discharge lamp 4, used for photographic recording in picture telegraphy apparatus, is supplied in series with a triode valve 1 which is grid modulated to produce the picture. Light from the lamp passes through a diaphragm 7 and lens 5 and 8 to recording paper or film 9 on a rotating drum 10. A portion of the light is reflected by a semitransparent mirror 12 on to a photo-cell or photomultiplier 14 the amplified output of which is fed back negatively to the grid of valve 1. Light intensity is thus maintained in correspondence with the magnitude of the modulating signal even if the lamp is changed. A linear relationship between the light intensity and the modulating signal is achieved by suitable choice of the characteristics of photo device 14. Several discharge lamps may be operated simultaneously.
