Abstract
1,223,929. Ammonia synthesis. CHEMOPROJEKT, PROJEKTOVA, INZENYRSKA A KONSULTACHI ORGANISACE, and CHEMICKE ZAVODY NARODNI PODNIK. 23 Dec., 1968 [22 Dec., 1967], No. 61069/68. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions B1-B2 and F4] A machine of gases, e.g. H 2 and N 2 in the synthesis of NH 3 , is caused to flow from operation mains 1 via pipe 3 and valve 4 into injector 8 where it serves as a driving medium for sucking in hot synthesis gas discharged from heat exchanger 8 via discharge pipe 6 and valve 7. The resulting mixture is then passed from injector 5 through heat exchangers 8 and 9, and into heat exchanger 10 from where it passes into and through external heater 11 where it is electrically heated. The hot gas then flows through and heats catalyst beds 12 and 13, heat exchanger 10, catalyst beds 14-17, heat exchanger 9 and finally into heat exchanger 8 from where the gas, now considerably cooled, is sucked into injector 5 by the passage into the injector of the initial cool gases entering the system from 1. In this way the synthesis gas entering up through the system is heated by the hot synthesis gas which is flowing down through the system, and also, the various catalyst beds and heat exchangers comprising the reactor itself are heated by the continuous flow of hot gas until of a sufficient temperature for the reaction to commence.
