Abstract

1,223,260. Spinning and finishing yarns. NELSONS SILK Ltd. 12 July, 1968 [13 July, 1967], No. 32230/67. Heading D1F. A running multifilament bundle is formed into a continuously interlaced yarn by plucking the bundle at intervals of at most 5 cms (of bundle length) whilst under a tension sufficient to prevent development of crunodal loops in the filaments. The interlacing action may be augmented (and perhaps heat treatments effected) by lateral passage of the bundle into and out of contact with a fluid e.g. air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, steam or water, jet. Acceptable rates of plucking e.g. 10,000 per minute, may be achieved in conventional ring- or cap-spinning equipment wherein the running bundle generates a "balloon" near the apex, and in the path, of which the bundle is intermittently drawn across, say two, plectra, formed by angled plates embodied in a combined guide and jet apparatus, and diverted inwardly of the bundle path thereby before being released to resume such path.
