Abstract

1,222,789. Tobacco-smoke filters. SUPLA ETABS. 6 Oct., 1969 [10 Oct., 1968], No. 48942/69. Heading A2C. A cigarette filter comprises a filter plug of initially uniform porosity which has been compacted axially to produce different degrees of density, and hence porosity, along its length within a region of the same filter material. The filter material may be cellulose fibres, synthetic fibres, crepe paper or wadding. Compaction may be effected by heat treating one or both ends of the plug, by means of a roller, or preferaby by means of a ram applied to the mouth end of the filter plug of a filter cigarette. Both ends of the plug may be compacted before uniting to a cigarette. The face of the ram may be plain, grooved or provided with grid-like ribs.
